LiDAR Face Scanning
A custom scanning pipeline built on iPhone's LiDAR and Face ID sensors captures a millimetre-accurate 3D model of the customer's head in seconds — the foundation for both size recommendation and bespoke frame generation.

Cubitts' philosophy is that glasses should fit perfectly. We built them a native iOS app that uses LiDAR to capture a precise 3D model of each customer's face — recommending the right frame size, enabling virtual try-on, and generating bespoke custom frames cut to exact measurements.

Cubitts is a British eyewear brand with a clear philosophy: glasses should fit perfectly. They design, manufacture, and sell spectacle frames — from ready-to-wear sizes to fully bespoke frames cut to individual measurements — through their network of UK retail stores.
The app is now the standard fitting tool across all Cubitts retail stores, used for every customer interaction from frame size recommendations to bespoke orders. By connecting LiDAR scanning directly to the manufacturing pipeline, Cubitts scaled a previously manual, time-intensive process into a consistent in-store experience — driving thousands of sales through the system.
Cubitts' entire brand is built on the idea that glasses should fit perfectly. But without a way to measure faces accurately, even in-store customers were estimating their size — leading to returns, remakes, and frames that never quite sat right. The bespoke service, which produces frames cut to individual measurements, was difficult to scale without a precise, repeatable measurement process that any store staff member could run.
We built a native iOS app that uses the LiDAR sensor and Face ID camera to capture a millimetre-accurate 3D model of the customer's head. The app runs two modes: a standard fitting mode that recommends the correct frame size, and a bespoke mode that generates a CNC machining file for a custom-manufactured frame.
Core capabilities that make this product work in the wild.

Precise face measurements are mapped against Cubitts' full frame size range to give customers a definitive size recommendation — eliminating guesswork and reducing returns.

The bespoke mode translates ultra-precise scan data into a CNC machining file sent directly to Cubitts' manufacturing line — enabling custom frames cut to exact individual measurements at scale.

Customers see every Cubitts frame rendered on their own 3D head model, then complete purchase through a Shopify-integrated checkout — all without leaving the app.
