Enterprise Field Service Platform for European Electricity Grid Operators

Utiligize needed a secure, multi-tenant platform their DSO clients could trust with critical grid infrastructure. We've been building and evolving it with them since 2020 — native iOS and Android apps, a React web platform, and the full backend infrastructure on Google Cloud.

Utiligize is a Danish software startup building enterprise tools for electricity grid operators (DSOs). Their platform helps field workers maintain, monitor, and manage grid infrastructure across multiple European energy utilities.

Six years in. Twenty clients and counting.

Utiligize has grown from a startup concept to an enterprise platform trusted by more than 20 electricity grid operators across Europe — with a stable, production-grade product that has scaled through two investment rounds. We've been their technical partner every step of the way.

✕ The Problem

Grid operators needed enterprise software built to their standards

DSOs — the companies responsible for distributing electricity across entire regions — operate critical infrastructure with zero tolerance for downtime or data exposure. Utiligize's clients required a multi-tenant SaaS platform with enterprise-grade SSO, role-based access, and offline-capable mobile apps that field workers could rely on in remote locations. No off-the-shelf solution covered the specificity of grid asset management — the platform had to be built from scratch.

✓ The Solution

A complete field service platform purpose-built for grid operators

We've built the entire Utiligize product stack since 2020: native iOS and Android apps for field workers, a React web platform for grid operators, and a Node.js + Python FastAPI backend on Google Cloud — all designed for enterprise security, multi-tenancy, and offline-first resilience.

  • 01Native iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) field service apps with offline-first architecture
  • 02Multi-tenant SSO integration with enterprise identity providers used by DSO organisations
  • 03Interactive infrastructure map displaying cables, transformers, substations, and all grid assets
  • 04Structured maintenance workflows for tracking and completing grid asset inspections
  • 05Asset-level guides and technical instructions for field worker reference on-site
  • 06Time logging and task scheduling system for planning and recording field work
  • 07React web platform for grid operators to manage assets, assign work, and view reporting

Core capabilities that make this product work in the wild.

FIRST POINT

Interactive Infrastructure Map

A real-time map displaying the full electricity grid — cables, transformers, substations, and all assets — giving field workers and planners a live view of what's where and what needs attention.

SECOND POINT

Maintenance Workflows

Structured, asset-specific maintenance flows that guide field workers through inspection checklists, capture findings, and update asset status in real time — replacing paper-based processes entirely.

THIRD POINT

Field Worker Assistant

On-site reference guides and technical instructions accessible per asset, so field workers always have the right documentation in their pocket — even without a signal.

FOURTH POINT

Time & Task Management

Integrated time logging and task scheduling lets field workers clock on to jobs, track time per asset, and managers assign and monitor work across the full team from a web dashboard.

Six Years of Continuous Delivery

STEP 01

Discovery & UX Research

Deep discovery across Utiligize's DSO target clients: interviewing field workers, grid planners, and operations managers to map real workflows before designing a single screen.

STEP 02

Architecture & Multi-Tenancy

Designed from the ground up for enterprise multi-tenancy: isolated data per client, SSO with corporate identity providers, and role-based access across mobile and web.

STEP 03

Native Mobile Development

Built iOS in Swift and Android in Kotlin — native, not cross-platform — because grid operators needed the reliability and platform-specific integrations that a hybrid approach couldn't guarantee.

STEP 04

Web Platform & Backend

Delivered the React web platform alongside the Node.js and Python FastAPI backend, running on Google Cloud with production-grade infrastructure and security from day one.

STEP 05

Enterprise Onboarding

Supported Utiligize through onboarding their first DSO clients: SSO configuration, tenant environment setup, and field worker training on the mobile apps.

STEP 06

Ongoing Partnership

Since 2020 we've shipped continuous improvements, new features, and scaling work as Utiligize has grown to 20+ DSO clients across Europe.

We're impressed with their transparency and ability to solve very challenging technical problems.
